Rachel was incredible in so many ways. We found out she typically is a Unit Educator but was filling in, working as a nurse during our time and she was one of the kindest and most amazing nurses I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. It wasn’t just a job for her. She genuinely cared and it was obvious in everything she did. She was always there in the room, checking everything and monitoring my mom, and amazing at explaining everything. It seemed like she naturally loved to help and loved giving us all the information we were asking about, answering our questions and offering info, and being so kind, approachable, and sympathetic through my mom’s time in the ICU. It was clear she was rooting for my mom and us and did everything in her power to help. She said she was thinking of my mom on her way home and had this thought or this idea and we could tell, her patients are important to her and she doesn't just leave them behind when she goes home at the end of the day.
Rachel wrote a very sweet and heartwarming note to my mother in her hospital diary for when she woke up. Because of rounds, Rachel no longer is nursing my mom as much and we miss her immensely. She feels like a good friend, has been an amazing advocate and nurse for my mom, and has made my family’s entire experience at Beth Israel so much easier.
