I was admitted for a scheduled induction just a few weeks prior to my due date. In my mind, I thought I still had weeks left of my pregnancy. However, my Midwife let me know just two days before that we would be meeting our baby a bit sooner. I was shocked, anxious, and of course, excited to meet this little human that I had carried around for 9 months.

I remember Rachel from the moment we entered our room. I'll admit, I'm not a social butterfly, and it takes me a while to truly connect to someone. This wasn't the case with Rachel.

Our first day there was unexpectedly slow. I felt a bit defeated that I wasn't showing much progress, but Rachel was reassuring and calm from the jump. We settled in for the night and looked forward to seeing Nurse Rachel in the morning!

The next day was much more eventful, and I remember thinking how grateful I was that Rachel had stayed over that evening. I was starting to progress, and the nerves were creeping in. Rachel wasn't scheduled to work for several days after this, and I can remember feeling that she wouldn't be there when the baby would arrive. She told us she would visit us later on in the week, and that was that.

The next day, I can vividly remember feeling a bit down. This was our third day in that room, and we were tired, bored, and anxious. The moment we saw Rachel walk into the room, we both perked up. She had come in on her day off! It meant so much to us to have her there. I remember telling family and friends that she had come back.

Rachel was right there beside me as I gave birth to our girl! She remained calm, encouraging, and showed the utmost care for me during this time. I gave birth at 9 PM. Rachel walked us to the postpartum room at 1 AM! She was with me the entire time, and she wasn't even supposed to be there.

She also stopped back in to visit us the next evening. We got a picture together that I will cherish forever. Our baby will know all about Nurse Rachel!

We told every family member and friend about her. We were impressed with all of the nurses, but to me it truly says something that we miss Rachel like a member of our own family. I constantly see other women praising the care they have received from her, and I am so grateful to understand why.
