Rachel first dedicated herself to our patients on 13 as a Student Behavioral Associate, and after graduation, chose to stay and step into a new role as a nurse. Rachel exemplifies what a compassionate nurse is. Patients can feel reassured that they are in a safe place and will be well taken care of by her gentle demeanor and calm nature. Her listening and empathy skills reach beyond the medication window, as she finds a way to connect with each patient despite not being able to work primarily on the floor.
Rachel spent extra time and effort with a highly anxious individual who was having difficulty starting basic tasks, as well as learning the names of her medications. Rachel worked with her to help memorize her medications so that she could feel knowledgeable and confident in her treatment. Not only did the patient improve in daily functioning, but she also was able to come out of her shell and joke around with Rachel, which then made her feel more comfortable overall.
Every staff member can attest to Rachel's helpfulness and thoughtfulness. Nurses often go to do a task and realize that Rachel has already set it up with them, and other staff can always count on her to help out when we need it. Rachel is a true DAISY Nurse.
***
One of the first things that strike you about Rachel is her calm, relaxed approach to competing often demanding tasks. She exemplifies professionalism. She is quick to not only identify a problem but work on a solution. Rachel has demonstrated an eagerness to learn and to share what she has learned with others. She is consistently kind, caring, and compassionate with our patients. She is frequently mentioned on staff rounds as a staff member all disciplines look up to and admire for her hard work, team player mentality, and the time she spends with patients. Rachel is always can be found with a smile on her face, a genuine what can I do to help you attitude and the ability no matter how hectic and fast-paced the day is to just sit with a patient until they are feeling safe.
