Rachel John, RN
Rachel John is the face of Pediatrics. She embodies all the 5-star qualities of a Nurse Leader, a bedside RN, and a team player, demonstrating integrity, adaptability, empathy, and commitment to her staff. She keeps this unit a float with all the Manager contributions, filters information to her staff, and will also be the first to jump in and assist in procedures and care for our little patients.
Rachel frequently will check in with staff on both days and nights to anticipate needs that the floor has. She makes herself available for troubleshooting and questions, and makes it known that she trusts us and our judgment and will support the staff's decisions. She works to be very approachable to her staff when concerns or needs arise.
When is Rachel not enthusiastic? She arrives with a smile and able hands to assist with whatever the staff’s needs are. She sends updates via email, texts, and information on the staff board to keep us all in the loop and informed on all things Pediatric, including continuing education opportunities available thru different agencies.
I have been at several community events with Rachel, and she is always willing to assist and come to the aid if anyone needs it. She is quick to announce she is a nurse and jump in. One particular situation was when we were both volunteering at a Middle School social, and a child had a leg injury, and 911 was called. Rachel stepped in and provided aid until EMS arrived, making the kid feel comfortable and telling cheesy jokes to distract him.
She makes me proud to be part of this team. Rachel has really blossomed as a Nurse Leader; she is quick to assist with IV starts and procedures, and often assists on her “days off”. Rachel is able to manage a family and work-life balance and is an example of how her staff can do the same. Her strengths as a mom and a nurse are a huge inspiration to her staff.
She assists on the floor and somehow manages to get all the administrative duties done as well. She is a powerhouse, a beautiful soul, and we are proud to call her our Leader!
