Rachel K Appold, RN

Rachel has been my nurse for several of my hospital stays. This most recent hospitalization was scary for me. When I found out Rachel was my nurse, my shoulders shrugged in relief & I told my family they could all go home because I knew she would take care of me. Rachel has a very calming presence & she is well-informed. If she doesn’t know the answer to something, she says so; a candor that I appreciate. But, she is also resourceful—she will research & find out for you. Rachel is also quite adaptive to new situations & adept at diplomatically diffusing them. On my last stay, I refused the NG tube & was hallucinating on 1mg Ativan. I was having a “dance party,” decorating my room & doing yoga (or so I thought). Apparently, I had also invited my nephew to do some karaoke. When he called the nurses’ station frantic, she verified he had the code/proper access & informed him I was highly medicated. She also shared that I was OK because she was sitting with me, letting me play all my Journey and other 80s music. I’d say that’s going above and beyond to take care of a patient.
