I would like to recognize Nurse Rachel Kubrak for the exceptional care she provided to me during my recent hospitalization. After spending more than thirty years as a police sergeant in the major crimes division, I’ve seen people at their best and their worst. I’ve learned to reach people quickly, and I can say without hesitation that Rachel is one of the finest professionals I’ve ever encountered – inside or outside of a hospital.

From the moment she walked into my room, Rachel carried herself with a calm confidence that immediately put me at ease. When you’ve spent a career in high-stress environments, you learn to sense when someone is in control of a situation, and Rachel absolutely was. But what impressed me even more was the compassion behind the confidence. She treated me not just as another patient, but as a person – someone with a story, a family, and fears that I didn’t always say out loud.

Rachel made sure I understood every step of my care, explaining procedures and medications clearly and patiently. She never talked down to me and never rushed through anything, even when I could tell the unit was busy. Her attention to detail was incredible – she noticed changes in my condition before I even mentioned them and addressed every concern with both skill and genuine care.

Being a patient in the hospital because of my heart made me feel helpless, something that doesn’t happen to me often. Rachel’s demeanor steadied me with her words, listened to me, reassured me, and made sure I understood every detail. In my line of work, we call that composure under pressure. In nursing, I imagine it’s called dedication. To me, it meant everything.

Rachel also treated my family with kindness and respect, answering their questions and easing their fears. She never made them feel like a burden.

In a profession that demands both technical expertise and deep humanity, Rachel stands out. She is the type of nurse who makes a difficult experience easier to bear, who brings light into the moments that feel heavy, and who reminds you that you’re not alone.

For her compassion, her professionalism, and the outstanding care she gave me, I wholeheartedly nominate Nurse Rachel Kubrak for the DAISY Award. She earned it every time she walked into my room.

Thank you, Rachel, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
