I am a nursing student at a local university. Rachel was assigned as the nurse I should follow for the day. Not only was Rachel an incredibly patient teacher, but it became obvious that she goes above and beyond every day for her patients. Rachel noticed that one of her patients was celebrating their 90th birthday in the hospital and with COVID. Rachel made the effort to call the patient's daughter to organize a surprise video chat and sing happy birthday to her. She made sure all her tasks were done on time so she could spend some extra time with this patient. She recognized how lonely this patient was and the effort to make her day special. The best part was that this seemed like Rachel's normal day-to-day. I only spent one day shadowing and learning from Rachel, but I already know that this nurse is the role model for the nurse I want to become.
