Rachel Ledvina, RN
A patient arrived at our building demanding to speak with a supervisor before she would leave. At this time, Rachel was the only staff member available, so she went downstairs to see how she could help. The patient was not a Neurology patient, nor was she established with any clinic within Rachel's service line - or even with any clinic in the building.
Despite this, Rachel chose to help. Rachel sat down with this patient and spent over three hours listening to her concerns, offering support, and working diligently to connect her with the appropriate resources. Although Rachel had many responsibilities and did not realistically have the time to stop everything she was doing that day, she recognized that this patient was in desperate need of help - and she stepped up without hesitation.
Prior to arriving at our building, this patient had gone to two other Bellin clinics seeking in-person support and was simply handed a piece of paper with a phone number to call. When she finally arrived here, she was fortunate enough to meet Rachel - someone who truly listened, showed compassion, and dedicated almost her entire day to advocating for her needs.
Rachel's actions embody so many of our core values.
Belonging: She fostered an inclusive and safe space for someone who felt unheard and overwhelmed.
Respect: She responded with kindness, patience, and understanding.
Excellence: She went above and beyond to ensure the patient received appropriate guidance and care.
Accountability: She took ownership of a situation that was not technically her responsibility.
Teamwork: She worked to connect the patient with the right resources and support systems.
Humility: She offered grace, empathy, and a genuine willingness to help without expectation or recognition.
Rachel exemplified what it means to truly care for others. Her compassion and selflessness made a profound difference for a patient in need, and she is deeply deserving of recognition through the DAISY Award.
