Rachel's focus on providing the best quality care experience and to ensure the patient received what he needed showed her commitment to excellence.
I would like to nominate Rachel Lewis due to the compassion and caring she showed to a patient and his family (his son and niece). She was very compassionate during the time when the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the restriction of patient visitors at the hospital. She provided patient-centered care when it was most needed and the patient felt truly alone. Then when the family arrived to get the discharge instructions she was very thorough in her review of the discharge documents. The following day after discharge the family identified there was a missing prescription. (The prescriptions were not called in since the patient was from out of town). Rachel was on duty the next day and was able to assist in facilitating the prescription to be called into a pharmacy near the family. She provided outstanding service by going above and beyond to track down the resident physician who could make this happen on a Saturday afternoon. This was during a high COVID time and I am sure this was not as high of a prior compared to other duties she had to manage that day.
Rachel's focus on providing the best quality care experience and to ensure the patient received what he needed showed her commitment to excellence. Even though she was faced with the additional burdens of caring for this patient and many other patients suspected of having a positive COVID-19 test, she never showed anything less than empathy and a caring attitude toward this particular situation. I feel that she should be recognized for being such an outstanding team member and dedicated employee who was extraordinarily compassionate during a very hectic time at the hospital. Both the patient and his son were impressed with her wonderful disposition and caring attitude. As the niece (also a nurse) and just an observer to her assisting them in an unusual situation, I was very impressed.
