Rachel is a fairly new nurse in the PICU, but has impressed me with her skill and compassion while taking care of a very complex Hem/Onc patient. Many seasoned nurses have taken care of this same patient with much more difficulty. She handles this complex patient with a very poor prognosis with such grace. The family is very involved and anxious but it never seems to phase her. She has developed such a great rapport with this family and has earned their complete trust. They request to have her every day that she is there. She treats this young lady with such dignity and respect. She never approaches her to do her care without explaining what she is going to do. She has such a tender way of interacting with this patient. Many nurses ask for a break from this assignment due to it's intensity, but never Rachel. I would love for her to be recognized for doing such an incredible job with this patient and family. She truly deserves it.
