I just want to say she was our Angel. She took so much worry off of us. Not only did she let us stay in her camper, but she brought up a bag of all these toiletries for us.
We live in Texas but were on vacation in Wyoming when my husband passed out behind the wheel while driving in Rawlins, WY. I had to grab the emergency brake and the steering wheel to get the car stopped, which I was able to do after a couple of tries. Me and my son jumped out of the car and ran around to the driver's side so that I could open the door and put my foot on the brake. Once I did that, I discovered my husband didn't just pass out, but he wasn't breathing, and his heart wasn't beating. I called 911 and the police officer and ambulance that got there, had to perform CPR and had to shock my husband's heart multiple times. He was transported to a hospital in Rawlins where I was told not to get my hopes up, he wasn't going to make it. Rawlins Hospital had my husband care flighted to Cheyanne Regional. It took us 3 hours to drive to Cheyanne to get to him.

His Nurse, Rachel, still let me see my husband when we got there, even though it was after hours. My 8-year-old son and I had nowhere to go. We were told by another Nurse that she would get us blankets and pillows and we could sleep that night in the ICU waiting room. That was very scary to me because I had never done that, but I was glad I didn't have to be too far from my husband. The next morning, I was awake in the waiting room crying because I didn't know if my husband was going to make it, and it was very traumatic what happened. Rachel was coming into work, and she had not clocked in yet when she saw me and came over to give me a hug. I really appreciated that and needed a hug. While we were in the ICU room that day, I was saying I didn't know where we were going to stay because it was Frontier Days, and everything was so expensive. I was prepared to sleep in the parking garage with my son. There was a social worker who did give me some phone numbers, but I had already looked into it, and it was too costly. Rachel reached out to some other nurses and came back to let me know that she was going to let us sleep in her camper on another Nurse's land. We were also there with my husband's cousin, whom we met up with and were on vacation within Colter Bay. Also, his two sons were with us. So, in all, Rachel helped not only me and my 2 sons but also my husband's cousin and his 2 sons all stay together in her camper. Rachel's husband, who is a Paramedic, got the camper and parked it for us on the other nurse's land.

I just want to say she was our Angel. She took so much worry off of us. Not only did she let us stay in her camper, but she brought up a bag of all these toiletries for us. And then she went to the grocery store and dropped off everything she could think of. I have always heard of amazing things happening to people but never experienced it for myself. This is why I want to write this about Rachel. She was amazing the whole time. I also want to tell you that everyone on the ICU floor was amazing. They were so caring and compassionate. I wasn't used to that kind of care for someone I love. I will never forget this hospital and the Doctors and Nurses. Y'all are all amazing to us. I just want to say thank you for everything y'all did. I am so glad that my husband made it through, and I have a happy ending.
