Rachel did everything she could to ensure we had the tools needed to be successful, and she did just as many hands-on shifts in the occupational health clinic as we were asked to do.
Rachel spent her lunch break today drawing diagrams of nursing concepts on a whiteboard to help me understand my homework. She then helped me dig through a pile of nursing theories to discover one I could actually feel excited about. Rachel is busy but she always makes time to help me and her other employees feel valued. Every day she takes at least a moment to check-in and see if I need anything. She never makes me feel silly for a question and always takes time to explain things in a clear way.
She has a passion for research and evidence-based practice that inspires those around her. During the Magnet visit, the work the Research and EBP council has done was highlighted. Rachel has been the driving force for this council making both research and EBP integrated into our organization. This impacts the quality of care given to patients, and helps nurses take pride in their work as they develop professionally. The entire Magnet visit went smoothly, and this was truly a testament to all the hours she spent to ensure everything was perfect. I heard her multiple times praising the nurses talking about how wonderful her job is, because of all the amazing work nurses at Schneck are doing.
Rachel also leads by example. During the pandemic, we were pulled from our jobs and stuck doing things that made us feel insecure in own abilities. She did everything she could to ensure we had the tools needed to be successful, and she did just as many hands-on shifts in the occupational health clinic as we were asked to do. She advocated for us to get our hours when staffing was cut and stood by our side when we felt tired and overwhelmed. She helped us get through this pandemic with our heads held high and I will be forever grateful for her support and leadership. She truly defines what it means to be an exceptional leader. She cares about her staff and her compassion shines through in everything she does.

Rachel came to the OR during one of the craziest times...during a pandemic when things were not certain for any of the OR staff and procedures. She came in joyful and willing to listen and help. She made things fair for all team members as far as rotations of who was sent out to other areas, she made sure that it was true teamwork and made sure that it wasn't just a certain few that was floated "out of our comfort zone".
Not only did she come to the OR as our manager during a crazy pandemic but also during the time that she was having to prepare the hospital for a Magnet site visit. As we all know, preparing for Magnet in itself is a full-time job and then to throw on top of that, managing 27 employees (employees that were having a rough time themselves of the uncertainty of our positions/hours. We had our moments!) She came in and really helped all of us, she has truly been here for us for anything and in the meantime, she totally dominated the Magnet process! She prepared people very well. Not once during all of this did we see her want to give up or be discouraged, she was always positive and always kind. I am proud of her and I am proud that she is my manager.

Magnet- pushing us to be better so that our patients and community benefit. This is what Rachel poured her heart and soul into over the past year. She worked constantly at pushing herself as well as pushing us to become better and stronger as a team. She wrote our Schneck Story so well that there was no additional needed documentation. This does not happen often. She prepared us all with what to expect during the visit while taking on and learning a new position. She leads the way through Schneck’s first all virtual site visit. She continues to work countless hours at pushing her department and those around her to do better and reach new heights. She is a huge asset to this organization and to those that she is mentoring.
