The best part is that Rachel has a very rare, nearly perfect mix of professionalism and a sense of humor.
I had Rachel as my nurse a few times on day shift and twice on 11-7 as well. All hyperbole aside, I absolutely could not have made it through those 11 days without Rachel - from her getting me through my Covid test (thankfully negative), to allowing me to keep as much dignity as possible through a C-diff test (also thankfully negative), or from starting yet another IV line when my second one blew to her flawless infiltration wound dressing changes on my arm.
The best part is that Rachel has a very rare, nearly perfect mix of professionalism and a sense of humor. She treated me as a patient, but she talked to me as a person, almost as though we were friends, dare I say it. On more than one occasion, Rachel and I got kind of giggly because of something she would say or respond to something I said. For example, as she was trying to salvage my IV, she ultimately said, "yeah, that's a goner". That comment instantly made me laugh and we just sort of rolled with it from there.
On another occasion, she and my wife "ganged up" on me to tease me about this, that or the other. I am a person for whom those types of things go a long way toward putting me at ease in a most uneasy situation. I simply cannot say enough about Rachel as a nurse and as a person.
