Rachel Wilson 2025, RN

I've worked with Rachel Wilson for a little over five years now, and she has always had a passion for pediatrics, particularly for the HEM/ONC patients. She always goes above and beyond when caring for our cancer patients. She has often volunteered to come in and administer chemotherapy when there has not been a scheduled chemo nurse, simply because she loves taking care of these patients. I have even seen her come in on an off day just to visit with a patient. She often gives patients gifts and snacks. She does whatever she can to make our cancer patients feel like a whole human being and to make their hospital experience less scary. Most recently, we had a cancer patient finish his very last chemo, and Rachel spent her own, hard-earned money on this huge poster with his face on a superhero cartoon body and had all of the staff sign it, as well as other toys. That specific instance is when I knew I wanted to nominate Rachel for a DAISY Award because she truly makes our St. Jude patients feel special. I know that she does not do it for recognition, but her heart truly is with these cancer patients, and I think she deserves some praise and credit for all that she does for them.
