I had Rachele for 3 nights in a row during my stay after my C-section. I developed an ileus on night one, and then had continued issues with edema and pain thereafter. I even had to come back, once discharged, for a blood transfusion and Rachele was our nurse that night as well. Although, my labor story has more detail, and this description might be shorter, she also had an extraordinary impact on my hospital stay. Rachele listened to our concerns, and would get our questions answered or problems resolved within hours. She understood my pain was real and was my advocate when, at times, it felt the physicians were not listening to us. She made sure my pain was controlled during my stay which was key to help with my mobility and healing. She comforted me when I had pain crises and offered other alternative methods in addition to medication. She was there and stood by our side when it was assured to us this was not a more major issue. She was continually sought out by us for comfort and knowledge since what we were experiencing was new and scary. She continually checked in with us and knew when we needed our rest. Continuity of care is key in the health care profession and I think Rachele was a fantastic example of that.
