Rachelle Floyd 2, LVN
During rush hour traffic, a Parkland HOMES nurse, Rachelle Floyd, was driving on Harry Hines Blvd near Children's Health and Parkland Hospital when she noticed a man lying motionless in the middle of the street. His body appeared twisted, and it seemed possible that he had been struck by a vehicle and left unattended.
Without hesitation, she stopped her car, turned on her hazard lights, and cautiously approached the man, prepared to initiate CPR if necessary. Thankfully, he was alive. During their interaction, the man shared that he wanted to die and stated that he had been lying there for three hours while countless people drove past without stopping to help.
Rachelle's willingness to stop, assess the situation, and provide compassion in a moment of crisis demonstrated extraordinary humanity and courage. The man repeatedly thanked her for caring enough to stop when no one else would.
This example is a powerful example of ICARE values in action, showing integrity, compassion, accountability, respect, and excellence through selfless service to another human being in need.
