When we walked in each day and saw she was working, I felt at ease knowing he was getting really good care.
I just wanted to reach out to let you know how grateful I am for the care my dad received in the PCU last week. He was admitted last week after having trouble breathing and was sent up to your floor after only a few days. We met Rae when we walked in; we were shocked and terrified. He took a quick turn overnight, and we were stunned to see him unable to breathe on his own. She was so thorough, explaining everything she was giving him, what it was for, and explaining to us what we were looking at on his vital screens. She also checked in with us to see if we were okay and needed anything.

When we walked in each day and saw she was working, I felt at ease knowing he was getting really good care. My dad wasn’t there long and unfortunately passed last Monday. That day was extraordinarily difficult, and she was there all day, talked us through options, and made sure he was comfortable and painless when we made the final decision to let him go on his own peacefully. I searched for her on Facebook and sent her a message thanking her for her kindness and professionalism. At one point on Monday, she walked in with tears in her eyes. I asked if she was okay, and she said yes. She explained to me later in that message that she was feeling a little emotional because her parents were my dad’s age, and she had a special place in her heart for him throughout the weekend.

Having a nurse like that in your department who truly cares about their patients is a blessing, and they are really few and far between. I myself have been at CMC in the ER twice in the last 6 years and had both of my children there in 2020 and 2022. I can only remember 1 physician and 2 nurses who truly cared about my well-being and were fantastic during such vulnerable times. I can add Rae to the list of those who care for my dad. I asked for your email, so I can let you know how great a job she did. She humbly said that I didn’t need to, and my message to her was enough, but if I wanted to, I could. We are completely devastated and upset. Dad only got his diagnosis last week and passed just a few days later. I am so thankful to have had Rae there for his final days.

Rae went above and beyond for her patient, cleaning her up, providing hair care, oral care, and cleaning her room. Ensuring the patient received adequate care and felt like a valued human being. The patient expressed gratitude towards the care provided by Rae.
