Raelyn had such a calm about it that I knew they had it handled. That they were going to do everything to make sure my baby and I were okay.
I had my first baby at HRMC this past weekend. There's a lot of fear and stigma that social media has placed around hospital births, so I had a bit of apprehension, especially with it being my first birth. I came in at shift change, so there were quite a few nurses in my room when I was admitted. Raelyn was my nurse for the night shift. She had such a calming presence and talked me through every contraction until my epidural was placed. She went above and beyond in explaining everything that was happening and what she was doing, and why. I ended up laboring all night, and towards the morning, my baby started making some scary changes. As a fellow nurse, I knew things weren't going great, but Raelyn had such a calm about it that I knew they had it handled. That they were going to do everything to make sure my baby and I were okay. She called the doctor in and continued to explain everything that was happening. She coached me as I pushed and was there for the birth of my baby! She ended up being my nurse the next two nights as well, and her compassionate and peaceful manner was exactly what my new mom self needed. I'm so grateful Raelyn was my nurse, and it's so obvious she's passionate about her job and the women/babies she cares for.
