Raixa Rodriguez, BSN
My husband is the toughest and most amazing person I know. He is someone who has dedicated his life to saving others. But on this day, he needed his own life saved.
I brought him to the hospital after a long, exhausting day that I believed was simply the result of being sick combined with a demanding shift. What we didn’t know at the time was that my husband had become septic, and everything changed in a matter of moments.
From the moment we arrived in the emergency room, Raixa was absolutely exceptional. Things escalated quickly and became terrifying. While the room felt chaotic and overwhelming, Raixa remained calm, confident, and completely in control. Her clinical skill was evident in every decision she made, but what stood out most was her compassion.
She took the time to reassure both my husband and me, explaining what was happening while never losing focus on the critical care he needed. In the most frightening moments of our lives, Raixa was our steady presence.
Beyond the lifesaving medical care she provided, she gave us something just as important: hope, reassurance, and the feeling that we were not alone. If it were not for Raixa, my husband would not be alive today. She did not just treat my husband; she fought for him.
Because of her, my children still have their father. Because of her, I still have my husband. And because of her, a man who has dedicated his life to protecting and saving others is able to continue doing the work he loves and serving his community.
Our family will forever be grateful to her. Raixa didn’t just care for my husband as a patient, she cared for him as a person and supported our family during a moment that changed our lives forever.
