I would like to recognize Rajji for her compassion, clinical excellence, and commitment to rehab nursing at Seattle Children’s Hospital.

There are many examples of Rajji going above and beyond to ensure patient safety while making every patient and family feel genuinely seen, heard, and valued. She has a remarkable ability to form meaningful connections with patients, especially those facing life-altering injuries and extended recovery periods.

One of my favorite examples of Rajji’s impact was her care for a patient involved in a motor vehicle accident that resulted in profound neurological and mobility deficits. Throughout this patient’s rehab stay, Rajji quickly became one of the patient’s and family’s favorite nurses.

I remember walking into their room on many occasions and being asked, “Is Rajji here? I want to tell her all the things I did in therapy today!” The patient was eager to share progress, accomplishments, and goal smashing, knowing full well how proud Rajji would be of every milestone, no matter the size.

Rajji has a rare gift for holding space for complex emotions that come with significant loss while also instilling hope and motivation. She consistently validated this patient’s grief and frustration surrounding living with their new normal, while skillfully redirecting focus towards existing strength and future growth.

She celebrated resilience and progress, which truly helped the patient recognize what their body could do rather than what the accident took away.

On this unit, progress can be slow, and this particular patient had a few setbacks along the way. However, Rajji’s patience, empathy, and countless words of encouragement shaped the patient’s views of her stay here, inspiring me to adopt some of her practices to improve my own patients’ outcomes.

She was never too busy to listen, was consistently so vigilant in catching orders that seemed not to align with current care plans, and always continues to put her patients' needs above anything else, every single shift.

I can think of no one else who is more suited for this very special award.

She also has excellent teamwork and time management skills and is always willing to lend a helping hand to others. I have personally learned a lot from her.

Thank you for the opportunity to celebrate this wonderful nurse; she has one of the biggest hearts of anyone I’ve ever come across, and because of her quiet and humble diligence, she is often not recognized enough.

Thank you, Rajbir, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
