Rakhi was one of our OB Triage nurses when we received an OB emergency page about a delivering pregnant patient en route to the ED Trauma Bay via EMS. Without hesitation, she went to the ED. The baby arrived first and was clearly small and periviable. Mom (patient) arrived next, appropriately nervous having just delivered her 21+week baby at home. Ultimately, the patient and her husband made the decision to withdraw heroic measures and provide comfort care. Rakhi thought to take a video for the patient and her husband of them spending those few precious moments with their son in his short life. This created a lasting special memory and the patient and husband were so grateful. Rakhi cared for the patient in the ED, in transport to L&D, and helped transition her care in an exceptionally compassionate and sensitive manner.
