Ralph Ornelas really saved the day today. We have a patient in our observation unit who has required a lot of extra grace and patience due to behavior issues. He has been disruptive and has sabotaged his own care in some ways, leading to delays. We were trying to help him get through an IR procedure today and he was basically refusing and requiring a lot of help to get him there. I ended up walking the patient over myself with transportation to try to ensure he got there (he had refused to go with transportation), and when I arrived at IR holding I was very thankful to see Ralph. I let Ralph know quickly that we needed some extra smooth help right away. He immediately understood without explanation, recognizing this patient from before. Ralph took it from there and immediately put the patient at ease. The patient recognized Ralph from prior trips to IR and obviously trusted him completely. I saw Ralph calmly reassure the patient and get him settled to await his procedure. I was so very grateful for Ralph's bedside manner. I am certain that if someone had approached the patient differently he would have refused to allow us to help him. Ralph helped see the patient through his procedure and even gave me a courtesy call afterwards to let me know it was completed. I have always known Ralph to be fantastic, but today I believe he was meant to be there to help this particular patient. Ralph is most deserving of recognition for what I know he does every day for our patients.
