Whenever we told her he needed something, she would come immediately.
My dad was admitted to 3 East and was put on comfort care the following day. Raluca Trif was my dad's nurse that day. He had been having a lot of trouble breathing. He was scared. He also had a lot of family at the bedside, and Raluca had to maneuver around them. She was so gentle, and she made sure he was comfortable all day but still awake enough to see his family. Whenever we told her he needed something, she would come immediately. He slowly got more morphine throughout the shift, and when it came time to turn his oxygen down, she made the transition so smooth by premeditating him. I could tell that she eased his fear whenever she talked to him. Once he was pretty sedated, she focused on the family, letting us know what to expect even though three nurses were in the room. The three nurses all work in this hospital. If this fact made her nervous, she didn't show it. He needed morphine at shift change, and she came right in to give it. Raluca never made him wait- I like to think she gave my dad special treatment because we know each other and have worked together on 3East, but I think she treats all of her patients as if they are the most important patients she has that day. She is a very special nurse, and I know no one in my family will forget her.
