Ramon is one of the youngest nurses on our team, but a powerhouse. He is loved, admired, and respected by all. I have watched him grow into a great caregiver, coworker, and team player. He has a way about himself, especially when taking care of our elderly female patients. With such reverence, tenderness, and high regard, one would think he is caring for his own mother or family member. I often hear the Supervisor say, “He’s going to be a great girl dad.” He’s always willing to step up to the plate to give a hand or two, no matter how hard/easy the job might be. There is never a “no” or “I can’t” in his vocabulary. Whatever the circumstances, he is there to rescue us. On one particular day, a coworker (female) had a difficult male patient who was so rude and disrespectful, calling the female nurse out of her name; just over the top tough patient. After trying everything to keep the patient happy, the nurse was so distraught she could not go back into the patient’s room. Ramon immediately stepped in to assist. He spoke to the patient and asked him not to speak to the nurse in that manner or any of the staff. Later, the patient apologized and was calm. He will walk by in the hallway asking the staff, “Do you need help?” “Are you ok?” “What do you need?” “I can help.” As a charge nurse, he’s always present, always able, and always willing to go the extra mile not only for patients, but for his coworkers. In addition to being a great person, he is an outstanding, off-the-chart cook. He’s always gracing us with his mean Choco flan and Want to Slap Yo Mama Ceviche! So, there we go, he is a well-rounded young man. 7B Powerhouse!

Ramon is noted not only for their excellent patient care but also as a leader. He cares for elderly patients as if they were caring for their own family members- with great respect and kindness. As a charge nurse, this awardee will respectfully protect their teammates when they are working with belligerent or abusive patients; and always offer a helping hand. Surprisingly, today's honoree is also known as a fantastic chef creating dishes such as his delicious chocoflan and "slap yo' mama ceviche".
