Ramonita was reassuring, and patient and made me as comfortable as possible under the circumstances.
I am a retired 72-year-old operating room nurse. Dr. D performed a left breast lumpectomy with sentinel node biopsy for invasive ductal carcinoma and was discharged home after my procedure. Once home my left breast began swelling, and became firm and uncomfortable. I contacted the on-call surgical doctor, Dr. T who advised me to go to the Rex ED. Once Dr. T evaluated me the decision was made to take me back to the operating room. I had an evacuation of a hematoma, repair of muscle wall, and cauterization of the bleeding site. I woke up in PACU with Ramonita Rodriguez tending to me. I was apprehensive and in pain. I was also concerned about my 73-year-old husband. It was 3:30 am and we live 45 minutes away from the hospital. My husband had been up since 4:30 am the previous day. Ramonita offered my husband a pillow, and a blanket and encouraged him to go to the waiting room to rest. There were no hospital beds so I had to stay the night in PACU. My husband insisted on driving himself home. To ease my apprehension, Ramonita gave him the phone number to PACU and asked him to call once home. Ramonita was reassuring, and patient and made me as comfortable as possible under the circumstances. She made a difficult time better because of her caring and professional nature.
