Randy had the most respect for my husband while he was in the VA ICU. He is very genuine and not a fake! I felt he really did care about his patients and the family. I think he must treat all his patients with empathy, integrity, respect, and patience. He took the time to answer all our questions. He informed us about all the wait times for different procedures. Randy gave us discharge papers and other useful information about care at home. Randy deserves a DAISY Award.

Mr. Ross was caring for a female Veteran who had a history of PTSD. The Veteran could have easily refused care from Randy, but he spoke with her in a manner that was respectful and kind. Randy ensured that the Veteran kept her independence, was informed of all procedures, and was notified each time that he was going to touch her. She was at the end of her life, and we were preparing for her to be discharged home to spend her final days. Randy ensured that her family received education regarding the importance of palliative/home hospice care. The family was so appreciative of Randy that after her death, they wrote a heartfelt note detailing the compassion that she received while inpatient. His kindness doesn’t stop with end of life. Randy gets so many compliments from his co-workers about how calm, cool, and collected he is during urgent situations. We are blessed that he is a part of our team and deserving of the DAISY Award for the lengths he took to ensure everyone was comfortable.

Thank you, Randall, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
