Rather than accepting the discharge at face value, Randolph took the initiative to escalate his concerns, engaging in collaborative discussions with the care team and persistently advocating for further evaluation.
I am honored to nominate Randolph for the DAISY Award in recognition of his extraordinary compassion, clinical intuition, and unwavering advocacy on behalf of a patient whose life was forever changed by his actions.

While caring for a patient recently seen in the Emergency Department and cleared for discharge by the attending physician, Randolph sensed that something was not right. Despite the discharge order, he listened closely to the patient’s concerns and noted subtle but alarming changes in their condition. Rather than accepting the discharge at face value, Randolph took the initiative to escalate his concerns, engaging in collaborative discussions with the care team and persistently advocating for further evaluation.

Thanks to Randolph’s diligence and compassionate persistence, the patient underwent additional testing—testing that revealed a life-threatening brain tumor. It is no exaggeration to say that Randolph’s actions directly contributed to saving this patient’s life.

Randolph exemplifies what it means to be a true patient advocate. His ability to collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary team, combined with his clinical insight and deep compassion, makes him an invaluable member of our healthcare family. He consistently puts patients first, ensuring that their voices are heard and their needs are met—even when that means challenging the status quo.

Thank you, Randolph, for your unwavering commitment to excellence and for embodying the values that the DAISY Award was created to honor. Your dedication made all the difference.
