Randy was truly exceptional throughout my mom's stay. He was efficient, skilled, gentle, and compassionate. He put her at ease and never once seemed burdened by her anxieties or requests. He strived to anticipate her needs to reduce the burden on her and myself to advocate for things. He listened and made my mother and myself feel heard. He embodied patient-centered care and employed principles of trauma-informed care throughout his work with her. He was also exceptional with me. I am her daughter who lives out of state, and I'm a nurse, and I didn't leave the bedside; never an easy combination. He never dismissed me or disregarded what I was saying; he treated me like a true partner and expert in her care. He was attentive and kind. My mom said "I'm sorry for being such a pain, this isn't me" and his response was "I think you mis-stated patient". It took her a minute to understand, but I almost got tears in my eyes. That level of compassion is the art of healing and nursing. I can't express enough gratitude and appreciation to him.
