I was scheduled for a double shift and ended up working in the ICU with a very difficult patient. I tried different techniques, but nothing seemed to be working. In other words, the patient was not compliant at all. Yelling, screaming, urinating on the floor. At this point, her safety was my only concern.

I honestly felt that the nurse in charge should delegate half of the shift to someone else. Randy (medication nurse) stepped in, and it was beautiful to witness someone who genuinely cared. Cared for my wellbeing and the wellbeing of the patient as well. He redirected the patient and treated her with compassion and kindness, even though she continued to call him all sorts of names.

His action made me feel that I was not alone and gave me that "ahh moment" that I needed - reassurance of teamwork, kindness, compassion, and patience.

Randy, thank you for being you. It takes someone special to act as such. SCP needs more nurses like you who genuinely care. May God bless you and use you as an instrument to do more. Thank you, and I appreciate you.
