March 2026 Honoree
Raney Skinner, RN
I spent the majority of my orientation with Raney as my preceptor, and the experience was truly invaluable.
From the very beginning, it was clear that she takes her role as a preceptor seriously and genuinely cares about the growth and success of the nurses she mentors. Her kindness, patience, and understanding create an environment where new nurses feel supported, encouraged, and safe to learn.
Raney has an incredible ability to remain calm and composed in nearly any situation. As a new nurse, there were moments that felt overwhelming, but her calm presence helped ground me and gave me the confidence to move forward.
She consistently encouraged me to step outside of my comfort zone and take on challenges that initially seemed intimidating. Because she believed in me, I began to believe in myself. She took the time to thoroughly explain new skills and always ensured I understood not just how to perform them, but why they mattered. She went above and beyond to answer my questions and made every learning opportunity meaningful.
What stood out most was the way she delivered feedback—always respectful, thoughtful, and encouraging. She celebrated my strengths while guiding me in areas where I could grow, which motivated me to continuously improve.
Beyond being an exceptional teacher, Raney is a true role model for the kind of nurse I aspire to be. Her communication, empathy, and compassion toward her patients demonstrates the heart of nursing. Watching the way she advocates for her patients and connects with them on a human level showed me what truly patient-centered care looks like.
Raney has had a profound and lasting impact on my development as a nurse. The confidence and foundation she helped build during my orientation will stay with me throughout my career. I am incredibly grateful to have learned from her, and I hope one day I can provide the same level of support and mentorship to another new nurse.
Nurses like Raney do more than teach skills—they shape the future of nursing through their compassion, leadership, and dedication to others.
