Nurse Raffy's is clearly in the right profession, as is his heart!
Providing the right kind of excellent patient care is second nature to an RN. Regardless of a treatment's complexity, the severity of an ailment, or the special needs of a particular patient, RNs deliver a consistent level of effective care as a matter of course. All our nurses know what needs to be done, but there are instances when how it's done sets one nurse apart from others in the judgment of the patient - or in this case, that of the patient's parents. And that's why we're honoring Raphael Lascano of our Pediatric Unit with our DAISY Award.
The patient in this scenario is a little girl who's regrettably seen more than her fair share of hospitals in her time. And because of that, the girl's parents can draw from a range of experiences when it comes to comparing the healthcare professionals that have cared for her. And in their informed opinion, when it comes to professionalism, kindness, and the level of care, no one has come close to Raphael. Within moments of meeting him, they were impressed with his incredible knowledge base, compassion, and his remarkable natural ability to connect with kids. They also came to appreciate his attention to little things.
"Nurse Raffy noticed everything - like how our daughter used the hospital gown as a 'blankie'. Without asking, he immediately brought her another one, which made her so happy and comforted her throughout her stay. His use of humor lightened the tension of seeing our daughter in such difficulty, and his thoughtful explanations made an incredibly challenging time easier on our family. He made us feel comfortable and informed every step of the way. Raffy was made to be a pediatric nurse. I truly believe this is his calling, and we'll be forever grateful to him."
Given his ease and sincerity in how he responds to the needs of his young patients, we, too, are convinced Raphael is living his calling. No further proof is needed than the delicacy and mindfulness he shows to parents who are often sick at heart about their children's condition.
