Raquel was absolutely essential in my breastfeeding journey.
These three incredible nurses could not have made my postpartum experience better. From the start of my time in FCC, I was greeted with kindness, respect, and compassion by Thuy. She welcomed me, my husband, and our newest addition and made us feel at home in the unit. She ensured my pain and nausea were well managed, provided me with the resources I requested for feeding my newborn, and did so without judgment or bias. Every request we had was completed in a timely manner and with a smile on Thuy's face. She was well informed about my experience in L&D and overall health due to her thorough immersion in my chart prenatals and medical history as she had been anticipating my arrival. It was reassuring to know my new nurse had taken the time and effort to get to know me and my potential needs prior to my arrival on the unit. She was able to anticipate interventions and medications making her an incredibly aware nurse.

Raquel was absolutely essential in my breastfeeding journey. She assisted me by not only assessing and helping my newborn latch but also providing reassurance and emotional support while starting my feeding journey. When I requested formula to supplement my daughter, she provided it without judgment or hesitation. She encouraged me to keep up with the hard work that I had been putting in and provided ample education on lactation and all things breastfeeding-related. As she was one of my night shift nurses, her knowledge, encouragement, and support were vital since lactation nurses were no longer working.

Barvarita ended my night shift nursing experience on a high note. The third night was when the pain from my c-section became the most intense. Barvarita helped me navigate pain management by ensuring I was well-informed on my medication options. She made me part of my care. She encouraged my collaboration in care and made me, the patient, the center of the care she provided. She ultimately is the nurse who helped me manage my pain with a plan. Thanks to her, I felt comfortable and empowered in going home knowing that I had a plan to keep comfortable caring for my newborn. Each of these nurses provided exceptional care and made my postpartum experience fantastic. All three ladies are the epitome of what the DAISY Award represents. I could not have started off my postpartum journey any higher all thanks to Thuy, Raquel, and Barvarita.
