Raquel joined us in November 2023 as a Nurse Educator on our Guatemala medical mission. She quickly found there were very few resources to provide much needed education. She could have taken the easy road and taught tooth brushing and simple diet, but Raquel saw a need and hit the ground running, developing programs for diabetic education, diet for gastrointestinal issues, and proper nutrition for infants and children. She incorporated pictures using her laptop, and as she is fluent in Spanish, she was able to identify issues not discovered by our primary care team. Returning to the States, she continued to work with our Guatemalan partner for several months to develop a program for all NP students to use in the future. Raquel returned to Guatemala with our February team to instill the program she developed. She has made significant changes in the lives of many of our Guatemalan patients, which will lead to healthier living conditions for families. She is a team player and a great support to our team.
