Rashida is a true empath and sensitively feels what her patients and even coworkers are going through. She treats every patient as the whole patient, supporting them mentally, emotionally, and psychologically.
First, I would like to extend my gratitude and commendation to Rashida Dorant, RN for going far above and beyond the call of duty. Ms. Dorant took a great deal of time to speak to me and my roommate/fellow patient in the same room, in order to understand our treatments, medication regimens, goals and frame of mind. She volunteered to do extra work every evening as she was going off shift in order to ensure that we would be not be awoken during the night more than necessary but rather have the chance to sleep and recuperate. I truly feel that her care impacted my very positive outcome in a significant way. She is professional, kind, knowledgeable and generous, a natural born healer, and she deserves some sort of special recognition, though she clearly does what she does for its own sake.

Recently, one of our UAs, Diana, was working alone at the front desk and numerous calls were coming in through the call bell. I overheard her say to the call bell before picking up, “Rashida! Stop having morning coffee with all of your patients, all of them are calling just wanting to talk more with you!” We all started cracking up, but that legitimately describes the kind of nurse Rashida is. She truly deserves this award for the thousands of lives she has impacted over the last 17 years. There are people who do their job, and then there is Rashida, who does it far better because of who she is

Rashida has been my advocate during my entire stay. She listened, was caring, and was compassionate (actually underlined). She went above and beyond to help me with my issues. She was understanding, always available, and never forgot to check on me. She is an Extraordinary Nurse, the best I’ve ever had. She is a guardian angel. She is the only person who made me feel important and that my issues were a priority. I owe her so much!!

Rashida was an individual who showed professionalism, kindness, and compassion towards me under her care. One could say she was doing her job, but it was the way she conducted her role. Her presence brightened my situation, her smile, her actions and words were always kind and patient. Thank you, Rashida.

As Mahatma Gandhi once said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” This couldn’t be truer when describing Rashida Dorant as a nurse. We literally lose her for hours due to the tender and compassionate care she is providing to every single one of her patients. Rashida exemplifies what nursing is at its core.
Rashida started her nursing career at MSK in 2005 on M10. As a new nurse, she gained experience on the inpatient unit and wanted to learn more about the disease process. She then obtained experience in the operating room, outpatient Gyn, and her passion for nursing brought her back to the bedside on M10 2 years ago. While many nurses ran from the bedside during the pandemic, Rashida ran back to the bedside to her true calling. It is hard to put into words the impact Rashida has not only on her patients, but her coworkers as well.
During a long shift, S was walking around the unit looking for Rashida to see if she needed help. Rashida had a patient who was actively dying without any family or friends present at the bedside. S found Rashida in the patient’s room, holding her hand and spending the last moments with her patient so she didn’t have to pass alone. To this day, you can find Rashida hanging out with her patients during her break or in her downtime, whether it is bathing them or simply getting to know them. She is a true empath and sensitively feels what her patients and even coworkers are going through. She treats every patient as the whole patient, supporting them mentally, emotionally, and psychologically. Rashida serves as a motherly figure to all of her coworkers, and her presence alone is enough to make a person feel at ease. She is a true role model and a positive asset to MSK.
