Ray truly listened to everything I had to say: my worries, my concerns, my opinions, my needs.
My husband and I were 7 weeks pregnant when we found out our baby did not make it. 15 hours later I was scheduled to arrive for my D & C procedure. We were both still trying to process this news while getting ready for surgery. As soon as I got into my pre-op room, my nurse Ray Wessling came in. I immediately began to cry and Ray came right over to me and allowed himself to be a shoulder for me to cry on. This is exactly what I needed in this moment. For someone who has cared for these kinds of patients before to now care for me and help guide me through this nightmare. Ray truly listened to everything I had to say: my worries, my concerns, my opinions, my needs. He never rushed me so he could begin his work, he simply sat and listened to me and allowed me to express my feelings. He knew exactly what to say to me. He was truly there for me and cared for me. He even took time to speak with my husband, he let my husband know that though he is not the direct patient he and his feelings still mattered. He took time to make sure my husband and I were okay.
Ray made me feel so loved and comforted I really did not want anyone else to care for me. I asked Ray if he could be there in PACU when I woke up and to continue to be my nurse. I felt bad asking this because this meant he had to keep working, possibly not take a lunch break and continue to be there for someone who was emotionally a wreck. Ray did not even think twice and he promised he would be there for me when I woke up. Sure enough, he was right there when I opened my eyes. He cared for me from the moment I got into my pre-op room at 1030 am to wheel me out to my car and hug me before I left.
I really have no perfect words for how he made me feel. My experience at Women and Babies Hospital was out of this world, and though this was a process I hope to never relive again, I can truly say Ray made me feel at home. Ray, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you. You are amazing at what you do. Please know you made a huge impact on my life and I know all of your patients are so lucky to have you.
