My daughter was born on April 19th. Everything seemed to be going well until she was over 24 hours old. I noticed a few episodes where she was making a different noise. She also started lifting her arm and hitting herself in the head. No one else had heard the noise or witnessed the action of her arm except my husband and me. When we reported the behavior to other healthcare providers, they explained that babies do make different sounds. When Becky assessed our daughter and she observed the odd noise and her arm movements. She informed me that further evaluation was needed and that our physician would be notified.

The physician was notified and it was determined that our daughter appeared to have an unremarkable assessment. Becky continued to feel that something was not right and kept our daughter in the nursery to further observe her. She was able to identify her activity again and quickly notified the physician. The physician's repeat assessment determined something was wrong and a neonatologist was notified. A head ultrasound was done and it was determined that our daughter had a brain bleed.

Things began moving very quickly to have her transferred to Main Campus for surgery. Becky remained at our side to explain what and why things were happening in words we could understand. We were overwhelmed, scared and not sure what we needed to do. Becky made sure I was discharged as soon as possible to get to Main Campus. She then went to Main Campus to stay with us while our daughter was in surgery. Becky went above and beyond for us.

She was knowledgeable, comforting and compassionate. Her expert assessment skills, ability to recognize a problem and prompt communication to the physician saved our daughter's life.
