During a recent Safety Huddle, one of the nursing leaders shared an example of Rebecca's extraordinary work that led to an improved patient outcome.

The patient had been transferred to a higher level of care for a procedure and later returned to Wellstar Douglas with a significant wound on their arm. The primary care team consulted with wound care for assistance. Rebecca and her colleague completed the initial consultation, performed a detailed assessment, and developed a wound care plan.

Demonstrating exceptional collaboration, the team reached out to the transferring hospital for clarification and guidance to ensure proper management of this complex wound. A few days later, during follow-up care, Rebecca observed changes in the wound’s appearance. The color of the exposed tendon had darkened, there was oozing in the surrounding tissue, and there was a change in the ability to palpate the patient’s pulse. Recognizing these concerning signs, she immediately escalated her findings to the provider.

Her quick thinking and advocacy prompted the patient’s timely transfer to another facility for advanced wound management.
