A young adult patient from another country came here for surgery for a brain tumor that wrapped around his optic nerve causing the patient to lose his sight. On 5 South, a very special nurse, Rebecca Bunton-Woods, made the patient and his mother very comfortable while they were here. He transferred to 5 South for chemo where she was assigned to his care. When the patient was ready to be discharged, the patient's mother asked if someone could take her to Hope Lodge to get her things.
Becky was saddened to know how their lives were going to be much harder at home with the patient's disease and now by his blindness. She offered to help. Becky took the mother to Hope Lodge for her things, carried her luggage from Hope Lodge to 5 South and then took her to the Dollar Store. The mother picked up some personal items and also wanted to get candy to take back with her. Becky is such a caring and extraordinary person, she used her PTO and her personal car to help out. Then she also insisted on paying for the items from the Dollar Store. The mother was so touched and overwhelmed by Becky's kindness, all she could say was: "God bless you—I will never forget you." We are so fortunate at Roper Hospital to have excellent nurses like Becky. She is definitely someone you would trust to care for your own family.
