Rebecca was the first nurse we got after the birth of our stillborn baby. Rebecca was very understanding and comforting during our time of grief. The best thing about her was that she was helping us with everything about our baby, even when not asked for. She suggested to us about our baby's hand and foot prints, baby foot clay and gave us baby memories born. We would have never thought of all these things. Rebecca took so many pics of our baby after the birth which we would have missed out on in our situation. She was always there whenever we needed anything and always with a smile. Rebecca went above and beyond to help us out each time and took care of me as her own family member. Every small thing she did for us made a huge difference at the time and she will remain one of the best nurses for us, ever.

We had a patient who came into our unit with a fetal loss. After the patient was notified of the news the patient declined to stay to be induced. Rebecca was the nurse to be assigned to take this patient. From the moment that she took this patient, she attempted to start the healing process as well as being a shoulder to cry on for this family. This particular family also had their son with them on arrival to the unit because they had no idea of the news they were going to hear.
Rebecca took it upon herself to help watch their child while they were trying to wrap their head around this sudden news. She took their child to the gift shop and used her own money to purchase the child toys to preoccupy him, bought him candy, as well as purchased the parents a memory gift for their child to give to them. I had the opportunity of going downstairs with her as she picked out these items with the child. As anticipated, the parents were so appreciative of her kindness. This simple act of kindness was very moving to me.
This is what nursing is all about. People will sometimes forget exactly what you did or the exact wording of what you said but they will always remember how you made them feel. Rebecca is an exact example of what it means to be a good nurse. She treated them with dignity, respect, and with a loving heart. Rebecca deserves to be honored with the DAISY Award in my eyes. Thank you!
