A Monmouth Medical Center behavioral health nurse who leads the hospital’s Children’s Crisis Intervention Services (CCIS) unit and is widely praised as an exceedingly inspirational, enthusiastic, and interactive director of patient care, has been honored with the quarterly DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses®. In nominating Rebecca Dominguez, BSN, RN, her colleagues submitted nominations that included these comments: Rebecca is a great role model for her staff; she is always at work, early, with a smile. She takes great pride in patient care and strives for greatness in the unit. Her staff sees her positivity, which is infectious. She encompasses what it means to be a leader; she is kind, compassionate, and always supportive of her staff. When her staff presents ideas for the unit, performance improvement projects, or just overall changes, she actively listens and provides encouragement. She always takes into account what her staff says, and she makes changes to the unit for the better. Rebecca is always encouraging them to reach their goals and offers support when they want to further their education. Rebecca provides enthusiasm every day she is at work, and she strives for patient satisfaction. During Halloween, Rebecca can be seen dressed from head to toe in a well-thought-out and stylish costume, orchestrating trick-or-treating on the unit and allowing the young patients to just be kids and enjoy life. The faces of the children say it all, smiling ear to ear. She cares about the patients, is a strong advocate for the behavioral health community, and is always trying to reduce the stigma. Rebecca embodies the Monmouth Medical Center Professional Practice Model that focuses on self, patient, family, and the community. She enhances the image of nursing by championing safety and quality. Rebecca’s care, concern, and love for CCIS and the Behavioral Health Department is infectious – she inspires others to go above and beyond, led by her example. She is proud of her nursing staff and makes sure to provide meaningful recognition so that the nurses feel supported and appreciated. The way she cares for our patient population inspires staff to work harder to meet her level of excellence; we are more empowered to provide the best care and feel confident that we are doing our best. Rebecca has been an inspiration with her daily dedication to our patients, their families, and our staff. She is a ‘hands-on’ leader and is a constant presence in the unit while attending to her managerial responsibilities. She is interactive with patients, spending individual time with them and developing incentive plans to assist with their progress. She demonstrates respect and appreciation for our staff while also acting as director of patient care for a second unit. In summation, Rebecca provides leadership, motivation, and counseling to all on our unit and is an inspiration to our staff.
