Rebecca was the lead nurse and, as always, gave the absolute best care.
There have been multiple instances where Rebecca has shown immense knowledge and care for her patients. Today, however, I would like to nominate her for the DAISY Award for going above and beyond for not only one patient but all patients to follow in the same circumstances. We had a chest pain patient come into the ED. I did their EKG, and it was a STEMI. We rushed this patient to a room and began the transfer process. Rebecca was the lead nurse and, as always, gave the absolute best care.
EMS arrived to Transfer this patient to SRMH Cath lab; during their transfer of care, EMS started shaving the patient's chest more and performed a 12-lead while still on our gurney before transferring the patient to their gurney and leaving the department. Following this our staff discussed our frustration with the time delay that occurred on this critical patient, and Rebecca took it upon herself to reach out to medic ambulance to relay this information and see what could be done to improve care. Higher-ups at the medic ambulance responded back to Rebecca within hours, and after back-and-forth communication, they were able to set up new policies to force their crews to obtain their EKGs while en route to the appropriate facility to save the patients' heart muscles from dying further. They will be having more meetings to go over these changes with all of our staff and medic ambulance staff. Her actions and compassion for patients' safety will now benefit and save patients going forward.
Following this patient, we had a 4-year-old pediatric trauma walk-in, and Rebecca once again gave exceptional care. She asked this sweet little what her favorite song was, and it was 'Let it Go' from Frozen. We played this song while Rebecca did a physical assessment to calm and comfort the pediatric patient while she was in a stressful and scary time for her.
