July 2025 Honoree
Rebecca M Binion, BSN, RN
My Husband is a cancer patient. We came to the ED because he had a CT, which revealed a possible tear in the colon. Both of us were nervous and upset. The first Nurse we encountered after getting a room was Miss Rebecca. Talk about a ray of sunshine in a dark afternoon. She was fun and upbeat, started an IV that didn’t hurt him (rare), and was beyond kind. It was quite obvious that empathy is her superpower. She would check back on him frequently and made him laugh several times with her humor and sweet smile. To be able to comfort a Wife who was near tears, and a patient who has frankly just been beaten down by life… I can’t even convey how much we needed her that day. She is an exceptional woman and one of the best Nurses we have ever encountered. Many, many thanks to her for giving us some relief. She gave a 69-year-old marine veteran the opportunity to relax and focus on something other than a potentially dark diagnosis. He said of Rebecca, “I just wanted to take her home with us, we need her kindness and light”. I could not have said it better myself.
Thank you, Rebecca M, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
