Becky went above and way beyond for one of her dying patients. While in the ICU, an elderly woman with a poor prognosis was devastated to be away from her cat. Becky called the vet, got approval that the cat was up to date on all vaccines, approval from the patient relations and other steps to ensure that the woman could see her cat for the last time. She arranged for the neighbor to bring the cat to the bedside (in a pet taxi of course) so that the patient could have her last wish.
Becky is allergic to cats, so she was hesitant to be close to the room when the cat arrived, but she did it because she is an amazing and thoughtful nurse. The patient was so excited that she cried tears of joy!
Becky didn't just go above and beyond for this patient, this behavior is her normal. Each day she comes to work with a positive attitude, despite the acutely ill patients or the sad situations for the patients she cares for. Becky is the best example of what an ICU nurse is. She is one of the smartest nurses and best preceptors alive. St. Anthony's is lucky to call her their employee. Becky deserves the DAISY Award today and every day!
