Rebecca shows the highest standards of professional nursing practice, clinical excellence, and advocacy for the patient. Becca came to the operating room as a brand new nurse intern that knew little to nothing about the operating room to what she is now, which in my opinion is the best OR nurse I've ever met. Everything she does is top-notch quality. All the surgeons want her in their room.
She is often the glue that sticks everything together. She starts preparing for the next day before (or days before) making sure all the cards are accurate, cases are pulled, vendors are notified, and cases are organized to make things efficient. Collaboration is a large part of her job description.
Becca demonstrates trustworthiness. This is hard to describe because she is the gold standard that all others are compared. She is the most dependable and trusted person. She shows up early and stays late to make sure everything is ready to go. She doesn't have a dishonest or undependable bone in her body. She does all the things I've described while also a member of the CV team.
This team is very specialized and not too many people participate because of the time needed to be a member. This is in addition to all her other responsibilities as a clinical coordinator. So, trustworthy, yes, she is absolutely dependable for everything every day.
As far as professionalism, Becca behaves at work like she lives the rest of her life and people just don't come any better than her. She takes her job very seriously and refuses to do anything but a great job. You can ask any doctor, nurse, tech, nursing assistant, even the environmental services crew about working with her. She knows them all and I can guarantee that not one of them would say anything but wonderful things about her. Becca never misses an opportunity to say hi, ask how you are, and be of some assistance in helping do a job that isn't hers to do. She is truly the hardest working person I know.
With the recent COVID-19 pandemic situation, our hospital has been going through a lot of changes, and with that comes the stress and anxiety associated with knowing a serious illness is sweeping through our community. Having said that we had a patient that needed surgery and just so happened to be positive for the virus. The next obvious question is who "gets" to do the case.
As you can guess most people had no interest and others may have been convinced with a little peer pressure but that wasn't necessary. You guessed it, Becca and her friend volunteered right away. Their reason of course was selfless like you would expect. They said because they weren't married and didn't have kids that they were the obvious choice. When faced with doing this case their first thought was about their co-workers and their families instead of themselves.
Becca immediately started preparing for this task. She started the day before staying late of course to get ready. She got there early the next day and had a plan from beginning to end. It was very detailed and planned out. She had the best interest of the patient and OR team in mind, so we had no problems following her lead. We all felt much more at ease knowing that she had a plan. We simply had to listen to her.
Becca was the biggest reason I felt so comfortable through the whole case from beginning to end. Every time there was a question, she was confident and comfortable in her answers. I was so impressed with her that day. Becca was awesome before, but now she solidified in my mind she really is The Best. I want to make sure the rest of the hospital knows what those of us in the operating room already know, that Becca is an amazing DAISY Nurse.
