I have spent the last few days at your facility following a loved one's surgery. Over the course of two days, I was repeatedly struck by a few things. Rebecca has a certain way of seamlessly combining compassion and critical thinking skill. Of course, neither of those qualities are rare to nurses. What is rare, however, is the way that Rebecca combines the two.
My loved one's hospital stay involved some very tricky complications that were not easily identifiable by anyone not deeply engaged in the patient's care. Rebecca was very busy and stretched very thin, but you wouldn't have known that by the way she spent time digging into the details at hand. It was her genuine care and compassion that kept her in the room, continually digging through the many small details that could have been understandably shrugged off by someone as busy as her. The way she communicated and loved on our family allowed her to become close enough to the situation that her compassion and critical thinking skills became one. It was through this loving tenacity that enabled her to prompt the surgeon to consult with Internal Medicine, Neurology, and others to help identify what was going on. Thankfully, the issues were addressed, and all is well now.
Through all my years in the hospital setting, I have never witnessed a nurse so naturally and comfortably demonstrate the loving care that Rebecca demonstrated. It is clear that she does not just "demonstrate" these things - she lives them. It is impossible to describe through email the true spirit by which she exercises not only her nursing skills, but the much more important qualities of compassion, critical thinking, and others. Her impact is evidenced by this unsolicited email, as a token of my family's appreciation for her extraordinary care.
