My youngest daughter, K, delivered her son at Mat-Su. As a first-time mother, my daughter was confused, scared, unsettled, and uncertain. She was scared to sleep, not sure how to breastfeed, and certainly unfamiliar to motherhood. Her blood pressure began to rise and sleep was not an option. As the mother of K, I began to brainstorm on how to offer my daughter hope and reassurance that this great blessing would become the most important achievement she would ever encounter. As I brainstormed, a nurse entered my daughter's room and introduced herself as, Rebecca. Little did I know God had just answered my prayers and my brainstorming was over.
The connection with this nurse, my daughter, my grandson, and myself was amazing. Rebecca's knowledge of motherhood, breastfeeding, and newborn care was unexplainable. This nurse equipped my daughter with courage, strength, and the ability to believe in her natural instinct to care for someone so small and precious. As I watched this nurse interact with my daughter and grandson I began to weep as a light of assurance washed over my daughter that was unbreakable. My daughter began to believe in herself as a mother. Rebecca not only shared her knowledge, but she also shared breastfeeding tricks, lived experience, passion, and how to conquer her fears. What this nurse gave my family is really priceless and unexplainable.
Rebecca is a true DAISY Nurse. How does one explain passion and dedication? How do new mothers prevent postpartum depression?
How do you write or describe greatness?
