With Becca, it isn't so much what she does, but how she does it. She makes you feel like you are the only patient she is attending to.
I had prostate TURP surgery in June. I was admitted to the hospital and stayed Monday night. On Tuesday my status was changed to inpatient due to complications l was having. As part of the TURP surgery, I had a catheter with CBl. On Tuesday, the nurse had me start walking around the hallways. By Tuesday afternoon I started having bladder spasms every 20 minutes. I also had blood clots plug my catheter multiple times, requiring flushing with a syringe. I was totally exhausted after everything that had transpired Tuesday afternoon. The doctor prescribed valium to help me sleep and that helped. Becca Schmitt was my day nurse on Wednesday and Thursday. I want to say that all the nurses and CNAs I had during my stay did a very good job and treated me very well. After my spasms started again on Wednesday morning, Becca got with the doctor and together they determined the best course of action was to remove the catheter since my body was rejecting it. It took several hours, but by 5 p.m. I had a normal urine flow and no more spasms. I'm sure it can be said that Becca didn't do anything that any other nurse would have done. With Becca, it isn't so much what she does, but how she does it. She makes you feel like you are the only patient she is attending to. She always has a big smile on her face every time she walks into your room. She always gives you words of encouragement when things aren't going well. She shows respect to the other members of the staff when they are working together, and they show respect to her. When the nursing staff was working with me when I was dealing with the spasms and blood clots, she always stayed calm and thought things through before proceeding. Becca was also an exceptional listener. My wife and l feel that Becca is an Extraordinary Nurse and an extraordinary person.
