December 2019 Honoree
rebecca smith 2019, RN
I have personally seen Rebecca treat her patients with utmost respect and care, even at their toughest. Always a team player, willing to jump in and help if charge nurse or simply a staff nurse for the shift; it makes no difference. She extends this to her coworkers as well; willing to lend an ear, advice or hugs. I have never felt more encouraged or like I was worth someone's time than the night I experienced my first patient death. I have seen people die before, but as a newer nurse, this person was my first as my patient. After the code was over and after the Code Lavender Nurse left, Rebecca buttoned up her tasks and came over to my floor on 7 East. She sat with me, let me cry, let me talk through it, and offered her support and never looked as if she had other things she'd rather be doing than lending some compassion to a frazzled and unsteady coworker.
Thank you, Rebecca, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
