Rebecca Stephenson, RN

An 86-year-old patient came to radiation oncology for skin cancer consultation. When taking his vitals, Becca found him to be bradycardic down to HR 28. After seeing this on the monitor, she called the admin supervisor to our department to confirm. Although asymptomatic, this was a medical emergency identified by Becca.

The patient was brought to the ED, where he was quickly transferred to St Mary's Madison. He was ultimately diagnosed with a 3rd-degree complete heart block, and 3 days later he was in the OR getting a pacemaker. While he did not come to our department for anything cardiac-related, Becca's thorough and complete care very likely saved his life!
