My son J has a spinal injury and is on a ventilator. Life is very confusing for him right now and he isn't able to speak. He uses eye movements and arm movements to signal to us what he needs. He also tries to mouth words that I rarely understand. Rebecca took the time to watch closely and was able to help him. By the end of her shift they had a very clear means of communicating. This was clearly above normal "nursing" duties. This was true compassion and understanding and we feel very fortunate to have Rebecca care for J. I know if J didn't have the vent in he'd thank her himself. J has had great care from all the nurses in the Trauma ICU and Rebecca truly stands out.
